SPUTHE CHASSIS STABILIZER KIT - DYNA
I believe the frame and engine have to have MSO's. Have always had good luck with Sputhe stuff I have a 5spd Sputhe in a 4 spd box. It came on the bike when I got it. It came with an oil leak, but I changed out the seal and have had all good things to say about the tranny. I have had it for 3 and a half years now with no issues. Thread Tools. BB code is On.This instability is due to Harley's poorly designed Dyna chassis. The powertrain is mounted into the frame and supported by two centralized rubber mounts and a stabilizer link up top.
The offset weight from your primary drive, the twist or movement of the powertrain under torque, flex of the rubber mounts and more all lead to your rear wheel assembly mirroring the movement of the powertrain and causing these all well to known poor handling conditions and keep the rear well from being centered and inline with the chassis being there is no lateral support. In 05' Alan Sputhe took a pantended design concept for the well know motorcycle engineer Eric Buell designer of Buell motorycles and the infamous FXR and put his own twist on it to solve the this handling problem for Dyna models.
This bolt on stabilizer mounts to your frame and to your rubber isolator mounts then attaches the two together with an adjustable linkage for alignment purposes and lateral stabilization. While still allowing the mounts to dampen and the powertrain to move up and down, it will prevent the unwanted side to side movements of flex.

I have built a couple of these transmissions over the years. The first one I built was for myself, about 6 years ago. I bought a new take out, Twin Cam gear set from a customer, and had it just sitting around. So I used it. The objective of my build was to have a transmission that functioned like an over drive, but was still able to pull out on a hill in low gear with a 74" engine. I have seen it at least a hundred times on here, said, "but it is still a ratio in high gear".

I used a 25 tooth sprocket on the transmission and a 47 tooth on the rear wheel. With those sprockets, my final drive was around 2. It could wind out ot 80 MPH real easy, then shift to fifth. I don't ride my bike hard ashifting in to 5th at 80 wasn't revving the engine much at all.

The RT cases come polished as in the pic below. The only thing that is the same on your 4 speed transmission case and this one is the 4 studs on the bottom. That's it, nothing else. This is the RT kicker kit for this transmission. It is a nice complete set up, including the main shaft and all the small parts necessary for installation.They clear all stock exhaust pipes, oil tanks, battery boxes and brake linkages, etc.

Sputhe was not known to me because I was not into the motorcycle racing scene. Looking forward to my next purchase from Sputhe. I was finally able to get the bike out and wow what a difference the stabilizer links make! On acceleration it doesn't feel like it's trying to kick me off any more plus the high end speed issues are gone and I can also notice a difference at low speeds.

I have a sputhe 5 speed trans in a 76 flh. It shifts well,seems oil tight,no trouble finding neutral. It makes noise in 3rd and 4th gear. It did quiet some with red line oil, but is this noise normal or not. It is loud but I would not say very loud. Quiet in all other gears. If this is not normal what would cause this noise. Tags: None. Well I tore it down. Probably the rest are too. Ordered a rebuild kit and new mainshaft.
